A timeless classic… On the shortness of life by: Seneca

He says you are just wasting time if you are, “going after no fixed goal.”

You must have an end goal.

Time is limited, you have to know how to use it properly.

Seneca writes:

It is not that we have a short time to live, but that we waste a lot of it. Life is long enough, and a sufficiently generous amount has been given to us for the highest achievements if it were all well invested. But when it is wasted in heedless luxury and spent on no good activity, we are forced at last by death’s final constraint to realize that it has passed away before we knew it was passing.

So it is: we are not given a short life but we make it short, and we are not ill-supplied but wasteful of it… Life is long if you know how to use it.

Can you answer these three questions?
1. What is your end game goal?
2. What frivolous activity are your doing?
3. Which area of your life is going to make you more of a philosopher?

Consider what he says and ponder the questions.

Books I’ve read…

I got serious about reading a few years ago. Before that I don’t think I ever read a book cover to cover.

Even in high school I resisted reading because it wasn’t something I enjoyed. My mind tends to wonder when I read so I don’t remember what I’m reading.

I’ve gotten better at staying focused on what I read but it still needs to be something I’m interested in at the time.

It also helps when I take notes about what I’m reading and write about what it means to me.

Recently I’ve started buying my books on kindle so I can have them with me wherever I go. This has been one of the best things I’ve done to keep me reading.

I can carry an unlimited number of books with me and choose what I want to read when I have some down time.

I like to read different types of books depending on where I am or what time of day it is.

During my morning routine I typically read self-help type books. How to learn a new skill, how to be a better leader, how to be a better person and so on. Even books about how to run my business and how to stack cash.

At bed time I like to read about people. Biographies, auto-biographies, stories of hero’s, adventure or fiction. I read about people who did great things.

Books have brought mentors to me and supplied me with knowledge that I would not have been able to acquire.

Here’s a list of what I’ve been feeding my mind. It explains a lot about the decisions I make and how I think.

When I read I like to have some soft jazz in the background and this is one of the channels I listen to on Spotify.

Here’s a tip…if you are an Amazon Prime member there are many books you can borrow for free!

And a few words of wisdoms form Warren Buffett…

I hope you invest in yourself and learn to enjoy reading as much as I have.

Take some risk…

Every day you wake up you have two choices…

To capitalize and make the best of the opportunities that have been given to you. 🙏

Or…

To let them pass you by and look back regretting not taking any action.☹️

Just remember,

Your future self is watching you right now through memories…✈️🌎😎👍

The best piece of advice I can give you is…

…surround yourself with people who are obsessed with trying to shape the future, not people living in the past.

It really is true that you become like the people you hang around. This can be good and bad depending on who you choose to be around.

Health, wealth, love and happiness are all learned skilled or traits. We all have some inclination toward one or all of these but we learn how to create these in our lives.

We learn what to eat to be healthy. We learn what to say and how to say it to create deep lasting relationships. We learn how to develop a skill to market for income and so on.

Mentors, or people who are doing the things you want to do and are willing to show you the way, are the secret to success in most all areas of your life.

Have you humbled yourself to accept the instructions of a mentor?

If not think about where you are in life and where you want to be in 1 year, 3 years and 10 years from now.

How will you get there?

What skills do you need to learn?

Who is doing what you want to do and can call or meet with today?

Thanks for checking out my post today!

Be great my friends!!

You are the product of the people you surround yourself with…

If you take a piece of rotten fruit and place it beside perfectly good fruit…what happens?

The mold from the rotten fruit spreads over to the good fruit and both end up in bad condition.

So what happens when you surround yourself with people who dont build you up? Well….you become just like them…

Food for thought on this beautiful day.
